49 states, and one embarrassment...

Give an Indian a platform, even a small one and he's going to use it...
Boycott Arizona ! In any form, in every way...

I am leaning towards ...

I have been looking at some pictures of myself (yes, I do that sometimes) and I think that perhaps my left eye is higher than my right and my right ear is higher than my left !

I am irrepressable, I am insurmountable, I am the Mountain !

Five days can bring so much clarity. It can help us to assimilate our new realities and find direction and purpose from the chaos. I am constantly amazed at the human spirit, and today I am in awe of my own.

Joy can so easily be destroyed !

Am sitting here with tears in my eyes.
My wife just called from the doctor's office. We lost the baby...

Cinco de Mayo - Phoenix, Oh me, Oh my-o !

Today is Cinco de Mayo - the festival that is so creative that they just called it what it is... Next year, I aim to petition the White House to create a public holiday called 'The 12th of May' !

30 to 80 in 4 !

We just got back from Boston and a joyous 9 days with our niece Alejandra. The flight was smooth and we were greeted warmly by a gust of 80 degree weather as we exited the airport. A simple 4 hour flight from the North East and we were out of the 30 degree 'Spring' of Boston !

Wolver - eileen !

I just got told that I smell like David Beckham !
Normally not a bad thing but I think she meant that I smell like David Beckham AFTER a two hour run around a football pitch in which he has shared manly hugs with Frank Lampard, Joe Cole and Ashley Cole. The three of them being Chelsea players are bound to smell bad at the best of times.. so...

And the starting pointguard for the New York Knicks...

The newest scan... (turned sideways so the head is on top)

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my father's birthday.

Hear ye! Hear ye!

Another landmark today. We sent the word out about the pregnancy.
Both comfortable about the timing of the announcement, my wife and I clambered over each other to reach for our respective phones and ring our mothers.

It's Official !

OMG - don't know whether to LOL or ROFL...

Baby talk!

Feeling a bit angry with myself right now.
It seems that everyone suddenly decided to start talking about babies. I don't normally mind that much - but right now, we have one on the way and we can't talk about it... Is omission lying? Hell, no, I'm Indian !!!

Welcome Alejandra, you don't know it - but we were all waiting for you.

We just got back from the hospital.
Alejandra Teresa Randhawa Alvarez was born today. She weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces and is doing very well. Her mother is in good spirits - in main part thanks to the morphine. Her father is looking dazed and not a little confused. Yup, everything is back to normal !

Ours is not to wonder why. Ours is to build and buy.

Right now I feel about as comfortable as the Octomom at an abstinence conference...

To jog or not to jog?

Check this out.
Ranjit bought a pretty cool stroller for the baby. I looked at it and it looked more like a Harley three-wheeler than something for a kid.

Never travel with grandmas and poodles !

Boston. The city so wonderful they named it after an unremarkable English town with almost no redeeming qualities.
We arrived yesterday. After landing, I then proceeded to collapse from exhaustion and not wake up until well into the morning.
In honor of how I feel >>

Third time's a charm

It's been something of a long weekend.
Friday, we got our first positive - I think I told you about that one.
Saturday morning, Eileen completed the second test. The pink line appeared even faster this time, if that's possible, confirming the first test.

P-Day + 3.5 !

My suspicions have been confirmed.
Glad to see that our logical plan of waiting one more day was stuck to so precisely. My wife dutifully completed our discussion, agreed wholeheartedly that we had made a good decision and then ignored all of it and went to buy a pregnancy test kit !

P-Day + 3

Things have just gotten a bit real !
My wife is three days overdue for her period and although this is by no means a rare occurrence, it is raising the tension levels for us. We have just concluded an hour long discussion about what to do next. After calm and careful deliberation, we have decided to wait until tomorrow morning and then go and buy a pregnancy test kit.

P-Day + 1

This morning I woke up to the musical sound of my wife humming while she prepared a cooked breakfast for me and the unmistakable aroma of brewing coffee. It took me only a second to guess that something was horribly wrong.

P-Day !

Today was meant to be the day of my wife's monthly gift.
Although I know that she has never been very regular, she has taken the fact that she has not had her period as a sign that we are 'on to a winner'.

Filomenakomalam !!!

Things have been going well. My wife and I are very positive about the baby-making and we are keen to move from Puerto Rico and back to the United States.

What do we do when we fall? We get up.

Today is a much brighter day. We have both gotten over the disappointment of not being pregnant yet and are raring to get started again.
The process has begun again. The charts, the planning etc.
I am renewed in my determination to have kids. Aside from all of the dietary supplements that I know my wife will be sneaking into my food - I am looking for anything I can do to better our chances.

Mother Nature calls us failures.

My wife was presented with Mother Nature's monthly gift today. It is not the brightest day for us and knowing my wife as I do, I have left her to deal with it alone.

I am like most men. This simple incident means very little to us and we deal with it as if it means very little. In the grand scheme of things, it probably bears little significance for our efforts and it will soon be forgotten - but I am reminded of all the baggage that my wife, and all women, carry with them by the time they reach thirty years old.

We all live in a yellow bus.

Our peak period has been over for some time and we are fairly sure that the 'big' day must have been the first day of the seven. My wife seems overly pissed about this but I have told her that anything we do tends to have some interesting issues. "Remember, the yellow bus?" - this brought a smile to her face.

The Thin Pink Line

Ok - my hard fought faith in science is being tested to the max.
It has been seven consecutive days of testing and none of the tests have come up positive !

Sunday, January 17, 2010

I could tell you but then I'd have to ... move town.

Secrecy and stealth are key to the baby-making process.
If too many people find out what you have in mind then the couple soon starts to get treated like a ‘delivery device’ and a ‘receptacle’. If these people happen to be friends and family, then it will soon be forgotten that you are necessary at all.

Peeing on a stick for the greater good

Up until now, you might be forgiven for believing that my wife and I are the only members of our familial nucleus. Not so. Currently occupying the number two spot in the Marwaha Clan is Lili, our little dog.

Necessity is the mother of app-vention

This is the first of what I imagine will be numerous whine sessions!

It’s been a few days since my wife and I worked out how to use the ovulation test. Ever since, I get the impression that there are a fair few preparations being made around me that I am not completely aware of. I can’t put my finger on it – but I have suspicions!

Friday, January 8, 2010

A little knowledge is a dangerous and worrying thing.

My head is going to explode!
Aside from well-meaning-gay-friends, board-certified-obstetricians or that-bearded-guy-from-CSI, no man should know this much about the female reproductive system.

It begins...

It's been a few months since my wife's sister announced her pregnancy. The family went into the regular frenzy about it and it seemed that you couldn't get into a discussion of coffee, horse racing or NASCAR (for that matter) without someone saying,
"Well, coffee is no good for babies!", or
"Remember those pony rides on the beach when you were kids?", or
"NASCAR! Now that's something the babies will like!"
